2019 Joint Sessions of Workshops, Mons, Belgium

The 2019 Joint Sessions of Workshops took place at the Mons campus of the Université catholique de Louvain.

Twenty-nine Workshops ran, covering a wide range of subjects. Browse the complete list, and see a synopsis of the Workshops and the Papers presented, in the Academic Programme.

The Workshops were accompanied by an interesting plenary programme which included the Stein Rokkan lecture, this year given by Donatella della Porta (Scuola Normale Superiore) on the theme Democratic Innovations in Intense Times: Bringing Stein Rokkan back in for Understanding Cleavages in Moments of Crisis.

During the plenary, the 2018 Rudolf Wildenmann Prize was awarded to Philipp Lutz (Univeristy of Bern). Our warmest congratulations to Philipp.

The Joint Sessions are a great forum for international scholars to share ideas, to network, and to make new contacts with scholars who share their specific research interests. This strong sense of community was also reflected in social media – Twitter provided a popular medium for participants to share their experiences of the event.

We would like to express our utmost appreciation to the local organising team of Min Reuchamps, Elena Aoun, Pierre Baudewyns, Camila Carvallo, Irena De Greef, Marta Gallina, Laura Pascolo, Cécile Riche and Kristela Babic, for their hard work helping to put together the 2019 Joint Sessions.

The Joint Sessions of Workshops will be returning in 2020, taking place at Sciences Po Toulouse.  Look out for the Call for Papers coming in August 2019.
