Summer School on Kantian Political Thought Today: Global Challenges 

27 September – 1 October 2021, held virtually

Are you a student or postdoctoral researcher interested in exploring the contemporary relevance of Kantian political thought for global challenges? Our Standing Group on Kantian Political Thought invites you to meet top scholars and discuss key topics in the field from 27 September – 1 October 2021.

Organised in association with Keele University and the Jagiellonian University Krakow, the Summer School will feature insightful lectures delivered by leading academics and offer opportunities to present and reflect on your work in connection with the continued relevance of Kantian moral, legal and political thought.

This event is part of a series of Summer Schools in normative political theory/philosophy, previously organised in 2014–2016, 2018, and 2020. For more details, visit the Summer School website.

About the Summer School

  • Five teaching days
  • Nine 75-minute teaching sessions
  • Delegate presentations
  • Fora for additional questions and answers 

You'll be expected to deliver a presentation on a topic pertaining to the theme of the Summer School, providing a unique opportunity to discuss your work and gain feedback from established scholars.

The paper title and a 500-word abstract must be submitted as part of the application. 

Issues to be considered include:

  • climate change, environment and sustainability
  • artificial intelligence and its moral implications
  • disinformation, misinformation and malinformation
  • conspiracy theories and the problem of transparency
  • war and peace in modern politics
  • migration, displacement and cosmopolitanism
  • economic justice
  • equality, diversity and inclusion
  • territorial justice, including in outer space exploration
  • democratisation
  • education and progress

Applications

The Summer School is open to Masters and Doctoral students, as well as early postdoctoral researchers, working in the field of moral, legal and political theory/philosophy.

The Summer School will be delivered in English; you're expected to have a good command of written and spoken English.

The Summer School participation fee is £75 and includes tuition and supporting materials.

Limited funding may be available. Contact us if you are likely to require support with your participation fee.
