Winter School of the Standing Group on Kantian Political Thought

Kantian Political Thought Today: War and Other Global Challenges

28 November – 1 December 2022

ECPR Harbour House, Colchester and Online

Attended? We hope you had a memorable few days of thought-provoking lectures and fruitful networking!

Organised in association with Keele University and the Jagiellonian University Krakow, the Winter School featured insightful lectures delivered by leading academics in the field. It also offered opportunities to present and reflect on participants' work in connection with the continued relevance of Kantian moral, legal and political thought.

This event forms part of the series of Schools in normative political theory/philosophy, previously organised in 2014–2016, 2018, and 2020-2021.

About the Winter School

Issues to be considered may include:

  • Climate change, environment and sustainability
  • Artificial intelligence and its moral implications
  • Disinformation, misinformation and malinformation
  • Conspiracy theories and the problem of transparency
  • Migration, displacement and cosmopolitanism
  • Economic justice
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Territorial justice, including in outer space exploration
  • Democratisation
  • Education and progress

This year we expect a special focus will be placed on the topic of war and peace in modern politics. Other themes include:

  • Media ethics
  • Climate change

Good to know

The Winter School will be held at ECPR's home, Harbour House, a charming Grade II listed building dating back to the 1700s. Once known as the old Customs House, the building sits on the back of Hythe Quay, close to Colchester's town centre and the University of Essex campus.
