About

Erik P. Bucy (Ph.D., University of Maryland, College Park, 1998) is the Marshall and Sharleen Formby Regents Professor of Strategic Communication in the College of Media and Communication at Texas Tech University. He teaches and conducts research on disinformation, visual communication, political nonverbal behavior, and public opinion about the press. Bucy is the author of Image Bite Politics: News and the Visual Framing of Elections (with Maria Elizabeth Grabe, 2009) and editor of the Sourcebook for Political Communication Research (with R. Lance Holbert, 2013). The past editor of Politics and the Life Sciences, Bucy recently guest-edited a special issue of the International Journal of Press/Politics on visual politics. He is currently researching COVID-19 visual misinformation and producing a series of news literacy videos in conjunction with KTTZ-TV in Lubbock, TX to enhance public understanding of journalism. Bucy has held research fellowships and visiting appointments at the London School of Economics, University of Oxford, UCLA, University of Michigan, and Dartmouth College. He was recently named an honorary fellow of the Mass Communication Research Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
