This House Series roundtable examines the promises and challenges of using ChatGPT and similar artificial intelligence models for research and teaching in political science.

The roundtable

The release of ChatGPT sent shockwaves through societies worldwide, causing a heated debate where hopes and fears were pitted against each other.

This roundtable, which is held in conjunction with our Methods School summer programme, brings together a panel of experts to address some of the myriad questions about the implications of ChatGPT and similar AI models for academic work in political science.

Its primary focus is to contemplate the extent to which ChatGPT can help researchers and teachers to be more productive, while also considering the contentious notion of banning its academic use. The discussion further explores the domains where ChatGPT can be valuable in pedagogy, and how one can ensure the responsible use of AI among students and teachers.

Free and open to all

All instalments in our House Series are FREE to attend and open to scholars from both ECPR Member and non-member institutions.
