Our Joint Sessions of Workshops is a unique platform for scholars at all stages of their careers, from all parts of the world, and all sub-fields of political science, to come together for several days of intense discussion, feedback and collaboration.
The Joint Sessions of Workshops 2025 builds on more than five decades of success to offer scholars a unique opportunity to receive thorough feedback and engage in intense discussions on their specific areas of research.
This prestigious event has become a leading forum for interdisciplinary dialogue, helping tens of thousands of researchers hone their work and build enduring networks. The Joint Sessions have been the catalyst for numerous collaborations, leading to publications, the formation of Standing Groups and Research Networks, and fruitful ongoing partnerships.
Each Workshop is a closed forum accommodating 15–20 Papers over several days. Each participant presents their Paper which is then thoroughly reviewed and discussed by the group.

Contact our Events Team.We invite workshop proposals covering all areas of political science, including comparative politics, public policy and public administration, political theory, international relations, and European studies. To maintain high-quality interactions, participation is limited to scholars currently active in the respective Workshop field.
To be eligible to direct a Workshop, you must be affiliated with an ECPR Member institution. We recommend two Directors per Workshop who must come from institutions in two different countries.
All workshops are expected to be held in person at Charles University. Participants may attend only one Workshop and must fully engage in all its sessions.
Please read our guidelines and complete the proposal form here by midnight UK time on Wednesday 11 September. Proposals will be evaluated based on academic quality and the balance of approaches, sub-disciplines, and topics over time.
You will hear about the outcome of your proposal by mid-October 2024.
Only those with an approved Paper will be invited to register and pay through our online system. All participants and co-authors wishing to join must register to attend.
The registration fee is determined by your institution's membership status for the membership year 2024/25.
Please note that this event does not support hybrid participation.

The above fees include 21% VAT. All participants must pay a fee. Your space is not secured until your registration is paid in full.
You could get funded to attend our Joint Sessions of Workshops with the support of our two dedicated funding streams.
Applications are accepted from 17 December 2024 until 20 January 2025, midnight UK time.
Open to PhD students and early career scholars from ECPR Full Member institutions.
If successful, you will receive full fee waiver and up to £500 towards travel and accommodation costs.
Available to individual scholars who are not eligible to apply for our standard event participant funding scheme.
If successful, you will qualify for a reduced members fee and a grant of up to £500 towards travel and accommodation costs.
All participants must register to attend. However, please do not register until you have heard about the outcome of your application.
Please note:
The Rudolf Wildenmann Prize is awarded annually to a scholar (before PhD or within five years of receiving their PhD) in recognition of an outstanding Paper presented at the Joint Sessions of Workshops. This can be a co-authored Paper, under certain circumstances. The award for this prize is €1,000.
Nomination information will be sent directly to Workshop Directors who will be invited to nominate ONE Paper from their Workshop for this prize.
